Fix-it Friday!

Friday already?! Another week that just flew by! This week's photo for Fix-it Friday was taken by Melanie from Blogging Mum. I love the tight crop, but that also limits what you can do with it a little bit. Let's see what I can come up with!

Original:
Fix #1:
For this fix, I:
  • Cropped tighter.
  • Flipped to make it a mirror image.
  • Increased the brightness.
  • Converted to black & white.
  • Reduced noise.
  • Increased contrast.
But I wasn't really happy with the result, so I started from scratch and tried again.

Fix #2:
For fix #2, I:
  • Increased brightness.
  • Rotated slightly.
  • Cropped.
  • Decreased saturation on everything but the eyes.
  • Reduced noise.
  • Increased contrast.
This week's photo was a tough one for me. I can't say that I love either of my fixes really. But looking back at them, I think I like the first better than the second. I tend to gravitate to black & white though.

Which do you like best?

Fix-it Friday!

I can't believe it's Friday already! This week just flew by! This week's photo for Fix-it Friday was taken by Jennifer over at Confessions of a Working Mom. It was a pretty adorable photo to begin with, but I had fun editing it!

Original:
Fix #1:
I use Paint Shop Pro 9 for all my photo editing. Here's what I did:
- Reduced the noise
- Adjusted the brightness and contrast
- Adjusted the color saturation on her shirt, eyes and hair clip
- Cropped portrait

Fix #2:
From Fix #1, I:
- undid the crop
- converted to black & white
- increased the contrast a little bit more
- cropped landscape

Happy Friday! Hope you all have a great weekend! :)

Fix-it Friday!

It's Fix-it Friday again! I debated about whether or not I would participate this week. With We Art posts Wednesday and Thursday, I thought I should probably have a real post. But in the end, the photo this week was just too beautiful for me to miss out on the fun!

Original:
I really love the back lighting, but I think it made her face look a little too washed out.

Fix #1:Fix #2:My fixes are exactly the same except for the different crops. I accidentally closed Paint Shop Pro before I typed them out, so this is what I did to the best of my memory:

- Gamma correction
- Manual color correction for the black of her eyelashes
- Adjustment of midtones and contrast
- Slight sharpening

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Fix-it Friday!

It's Fix-it Friday again! This week's already tight crop of this adorable cooing baby had me stumped at first.

Original:
First, I rotated the image and then made it a mirror image. I played around with it in Paint Shop Pro 9, adjusting the color balance and highlights, and I still wasn't happy. I enhanced the color of the eyes and sharpened them, and it still didn't pop for me. I cropped it and did a barrel distortion correction and it was getting there, but it still wasn't interesting to me. This is what I had at that point:

Then, I remembered I had just downloaded this cool new Polaroid program! I popped my edited photo in that, added some text and voila!

Happy Friday, everyone!

Fix-it Friday!

It's Fix-it Friday again! This week's photo came from Melinda over at Bloggin’ It From The Burbs.

Original:
My Fix:
I loved the way Melinda was trying to use the rocks as a frame around this little cutie, but he was just too short for it to work in my opinion. He got lost in all that rock! I tried make him stand out more by cropping in closer, while still keeping the frame of the rocks. I tried to use the rule of thirds, and adjusted the midtones and color balance a little bit too. It didn't come out extremely creative, but nice and natural like I like my photos to be! :) Looking at it again now, I think it would look nice slightly rotated then cropped even closer, but I don't have time to try again this morning!

My mom is on her way here as I'm typing this! I'm looking forward to spending the weekend with her, even though we're going to be packing most of the time. Happy Friday everyone! Hope you all have a nice weekend! :)

Fix-it Friday!

Welcome back to Fix-it Friday! This week's photo had some serious blur problems! I had fun trying to fix it though, and played around with some parts of Paint Shop Pro that I haven't used before!

My Fix:

Basically, I adjusted the color balance, rotated and cropped the image, and did a lot of sharpening! Personally, I like photos that look real. I'm not into a lot of special effects, so I like to keep it simple. But there are a lot of really creative people out there, so head on over to i ♥ faces to see all the other fixes!

And DON'T FORGET, today is the last day to enter my AWESOME GIVEAWAY!! It's super easy, so get those entries in!! Happy Friday everyone! :)

Fix It Friday!

I just recently found the i heart faces blog and it has become one of my new favorites! Every Friday, they post a photo that could use a little help, and anyone can work on their photo editing skills and try to fix it.

Today's photo is from Carol at Black Salt Photography.
