I swear, I'm alive!

I know some of you are probably wondering where I've been since I said I'd be back on Monday. Well, on Friday when we were moving in, the Verizon guy showed up to install our tv and internet and the basement was LOCKED! Apparently, my new landlord keeps it locked and I didn't know it. He couldn't get out of work to come unlock it, so I had to reschedule. Originally, they were going to re-sechedule for Thursday, but I think the installation guy registered the pure panic on my face and managed to squeeze us in on Tuesday (today). The hubby was not happy about no tv for 4 days, and to be honest, I was a little state of panic about being without the internet! But it all worked out, and I think it was good to re-charge my batteries.

The move went fairly smoothly. My parents and maternal grandparents came on Thursday night to help with the move. My dad ended up getting out of work early enough that they got down here in time for us to load the moving truck once and get one load moved in Thursday night. We went back and loaded everything else up that night and had everything moved out of our old apartment by 8:30 Friday morning.

When we got here, we got the couches through the front door and into the kitchen but they wouldn't fit through the doorway into the living room. If I'm being completely honest with you, I freaked out. But my amazing father pushed them to the middle of the kitchen, told me to relax and concentrate on everything else, and call the landlord. When he got home from work, he brought his brother, father and one of their employees, and with all that man power they were able to maneuver it in such a way that it fit through! They scratched the door frame slightly, but they scratched it not us!

Most of Saturday was spent shopping for little things we needed and getting things set up. Sunday, we hung curtains and my parents and grandparents left around 1 in the afternoon. Did I mention that my hubby had to work Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday?! THANK GOD for my family!! I would have been a complete mess without them.

Yesterday, I hung pictures, did some grocery shopping and baked a huge batch of cookies for my landlord, his brother and his father for getting our couches in for us. Since my hubby was home by 3 yesterday, we watched a movie, made and ate dinner, watched another movie and went to bed early!! If you haven't seen 7 Pounds with Will Smith, you should definitely rent it!! It was really, really good! On the other hand, I didn't think Doubt lived up to all the hype about it.

Anyway, last night we got a confirmation call that the Verizon installation guy would be here between 9:30 and 10 this morning. Guess what time he showed up?

12:30 this afternoon!!! Nice, right?! So I sat here and wasted all morning. Then, it took him 3 hours to set everything up! Unbelievable! But he was really nice and we are all set now, so I'm quite happy. I know you all want pictures, but I haven't taken any yet. Things have been insanely busy and frankly, I'm beat! So, you'll have to wait just a little bit longer, but I promise I'll post some soon!

Oh, on the laptop front, I have some good news!! My dad's computer tech friend was able to recover ALL of my information from my defective hard drive!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!! My laptop is still out of commission though. The new blank hard drive has been installed, but I am waiting for the discs to come in the mail so I can install the operating system. Apparently what happened is this: The laptop I own used to come with a pre-loaded hard drive. Since then, they have changed this to sending it blank with the discs. This is why I didn't have the discs to begin with! So they are in the mail, and I should be back in business soon!!

That's all I have to report for now. I am really tired and looking forward to getting back to some sort of a schedule and hopefully finding a job SOON!! I opened Google Reader and I have 257 unread blog entries, so I hope you all forgive me for clicking mark all read and starting fresh. Hopefully I'll be able to catch up without reading them!

Hope you all had a great weekend and are doing well! I promise to try to get back to some sort of normal posting pattern soon! :)

Finally found furniture!

Don't you just love alliteration?!

Anyway, in December of 2006, my hubby and I moved back to New England from South Carolina and stayed with my parents for a few months. When we moved into our new apartment in March of 2007, we decided to leave our bed in "our" room at my parents' new house. We were getting married that June and figured we'd have enough money from wedding gifts to invest in a new bedroom set.

But being the indecisive person I am, it took me 2 years to find something I like!! In my own defense though, it is a big investment to make, and I wanted to make sure it was quality furniture and something I would like for a long time. I didn't want to just buy something to have furniture. My hubby and I had been to many furniture stores with no luck. Then, this weekend, my mom and I went to a few stores we hadn't been to yet, a little further away, and I finally found something I liked!

The hubby had the day off yesterday, so we took a ride. He liked it too, so we bought ourselves a bedroom set! woooohoooooo :) I couldn't take pictures in the store, but their website has pictures, so here they are!

We got a bed...
...a dresser...

...a chest......and 2 nightstands!
We'll pick it up the day after the move, which is GREAT! That way we don't have to move that furniture twice. I'm really happy with it! I love the dark wood and simple clean lines! And even though it's a big chunk of change, I know it's an investment and can't wait to be sleeping in a bed after 2 years of sleeping on a mattress on the floor!

Apple Pie, Moving & my 100th post!

This is my 100th post! Woooohoooo...hopefully many, many more to come!

Anyway, I was feeling domestic last night, so I made an apple pie. :) I found a new recipe in one of my cookbooks that I wanted to try out, so I figured Monday night was a good enough reason! *hahaha*

Here it is ready to go into the oven! And here it is just about to come out!

It looks good, right?? Well, if I'm honest, it was a bit of a disaster and I'm not quite sure why. Despite cooking it for about 15 minutes longer than it said to, the apples were still a little crunchy and the crust was a little uncooked in the center. I had to take it out though because the topping was starting to burn. Thankfully, apples with sugar and cinnamon taste pretty good even if they're not as soft as they should be, and my hubby will eat just about anything you put in front of him!

In other news, we're moving May 1st! We've moved just about every year since 2005, so I was a little hesitant about this. But the people upstairs are so loud, annoying and disrespectful that I could never just relax. I had been looking on craigslist every once in a while just to see what was out there, and I found what seemed to be a really nice apartment for $50 less per month than we pay now. I figured it couldn't hurt to just look at it, so the hubby and I went to check it out.

It has 3 bedrooms instead of the 2 we have now, the bathroom is bigger, there's a private driveway that we wouldn't have to share with anyone else, washer/dryer hook-ups and there's a backyard! Not to mention, it is just the owner and his wife that live upstairs. That means no more of what sounds like rollerskating kids 24/7 above us! The only thing that was on our wishlist that it didn't have was an extra half bath, but the bathroom it does have is at least twice the size of ours now. The closets are a lot smaller so that makes me a little nervous, but overall I think we're going to be a lot happier there. So we went for it!

Now I just have to deal with the packing and moving again. *ugh* I'm not happy about that, but thank GOD for my parents! If they didn't help us move every time, I think the hubby and I would have killed each other years ago! The thought of possibly being able to plant a garden will hopefully get me through... :)

Mission Accomplished

I don't have much time and I'm "borrowing" internet from the neighbors because my sister's isn't set up yet, but I wanted to post an update. The move went very smoothly!

The drive ended up taking 8 1/2 hours because we were following the moving truck and it couldn't go over 70 mph, but the ride went by pretty fast for the most part! We got to my sister and brother-in-law's new house around 4 pm on Friday and had everything unloaded off the truck by 5. We worked until about 10 that night and all day the next day, but they are all unpacked now. We just have some decorating to do and a few odds and ends to pick up.

Yesterday, around 3 pm, it started snowing here! I thought we left that at home for a week, but nooooooo, of course it followed us. The owners of the house they moved into said it has only snowed twice in the 25 years they have lived here and this morning there's about 6 inches on the ground! Figures, right?!

We have another busy day ahead of us today and I don't know when I'll have time to post again, but I'll try to soon!

Happy Fat Tuesday!

No Mardi Gras activities going on here, we're planning a pretty low key day. Sunday we came home to my parents' house. Yesterday, I posted my first "Not me!" Monday, but I was feeling pretty sick most of the day, so I spent the majority of it on the couch! This week we're busy helping my sister pack to move to Maryland with her new husband. We get the moving truck on Thursday to load it up and we're leaving bright and early Friday morning.

We'll be down there with them for about a week, so blogging may be sporatic. We do love the D.C. area though, so I'm hoping we'll do some of the touresty stuff! I'm planning on practicing some of my new photography skills and working on my first photo project for school, so keep an eye out for some photos while we're there.

That's about it for now. But we (of course!) went to see our niece as soon as we got home on Sunday, so I'll end this post with a couple photos of her! :)

She has the cutest little feet!

Sleepy during bath time!
