How much?!

Have you ever watched that show Say Yes To The Dress on TLC? The budgets that some of these women have for their wedding dresses are OUTRAGEOUS! $15,000 for a dress you're going to wear once??? What are you thinking???

I remember feeling guilty when my parents offered to buy my wedding dress, and it was only around $700! $5,000 - $10,000 - $15,000...really?! $15,000 is more than we spent on our entire reception!

It really makes me wonder if these people are thinking about and planning for their marriage at all, or if they are just planning an extravagant party. Do they really have this much money burning a hole in their pocket (or Daddy's?) or are they going into debt for this dress?

Working in the wedding industry, I see the stars in brides' eyes all the time. They want to create a fairy tale day, and I completely understand that. I really do. I wanted that day myself. But within reason. In my opinion, a wedding day should be a celebration of the couple and their love, of the commitment they are making to one another. It should be about sharing that with the people you love. The focus should be on the marriage and preparing for that lifelong commitment.

But that's just my opinion...

I personally know 3 people who are already divorced and still paying off the wedding. Ridic!

I Know! It's crazy to spend that much on a dress you wear once!
I got my dress for $300 and kept apologizing to my parents that I had picked out such an expensive dress. Ha, now I feel better!

My dress was £250 (about $400) and my mum is doing the alterations to it for free. I could have spent the entire budget on it, but it was more important to spend it all on as many people as we could possibly have there :)

It makes me sick to watch shows like Rich Bride Poor Bride and Bridezilla and see them spend so much! I completely agree with everything that you said. I would say that we spent less than 7-8K on our weddding and it was perfect!!!

I agree with you 100%. My wedding dress was $75 at a thrift store and I thought it was beautiful!! And we paid $150 for the church and the preacher. We bought a nice little cake from a local bakery for $40 and bought lots of disposable cameras for the photography. Made my own bouquet using silk flowers from Hobby Lobby! :) That was it! Wedding, reception, and gown all for under $500 bucks! :) If I could re-do it all over again, I'd do it all the same except for the photography. I wish we'd've spent a little and gotten a professional photographer. I just didn't want to put my parents out all that money. On the flip sode, my parents wanted to spend a little more on the whole shindig than what I ut together, so they just gave my and my hubby a check to get us started for the difference in what they had anticipated spending~it was a win-win deal! :)
